Born in Poznan in 1928. After studying architecture in Warsaw in the early 1950s, Jan Lenica became a central figure in Polish poster art, as well as a screenwriter, art critic, and animated film director, notably with Walerian Borowczyk. He is credited with coining the term "Polish Poster School."
Exhibitions in London, Frankfurt am Main, New York, Tokyo, Arnhem, Paris, Milan, Sao Paulo, Kassel, Honolulu, Copenhagen, Munich, and Vienna. Toulouse-Lautrec Prize in Paris in 1961, 1st Prize at the Warsaw International Poster Biennale in 1966, the Polish Minister of Culture and Art's Lifetime Achievement Award, and numerous awards for his animated films in Venice, Annecy, Mannheim, Brussels, Paris, and Oberhausen.
Jan Lenica died in 2001 in Berlin.
