Starting in the 1960s, the Polish National Entertainment Agency (ZPR) sought to promote the circus (CYRK) by commissioning posters from renowned artists.
These circus posters were rich in artistic expression, fantasy, and humor, and used metaphors and symbols to convey the atmosphere and idea of the circus. They quickly gained recognition outside of Poland.
Since the late 1980s, with the establishment of the market economy, Polish posters (including circus posters) disappeared from street fences and were replaced by commercial posters.
Polish Circus Posters have become collector's items and are exhibited in museums and galleries. Here we present some of these posters designed by Jerzy Czerniawski, Wiktor Gorka, Hubert Hilscher, Witold Janowski, Jan Mlodozeniec, Jan Sawka, Waldemar Swierzy, Maciej Urbaniec and other great Polish artists.
