Born in 1931 in Katowice, Waldemar Swierzy studied at the Fine Arts School in Krakow in the early 1950s and then exhibited in Vienna, Moscow, Beirut, Copenhagen, Kassel, Honolulu, Poznan, Sao Paulo, Caracas, and Wroclaw. He was awarded the Tadeusz Trepkowski Prize in 1956; the Grand Prix Toulouse-Lautrec in Paris in 1959. Hollywood Reporters Awards for the poster in 1975 and 1985; Gold Medal at the Warsaw International Biennale in 1976; 1st Prize at the Lahti International Biennale in 1977; Gold and Bronze Medal at the International Jazz Salon “Jazzpo” in 1985; Gold Medal at the Polish Poster Biennale in Katowice in 1989.

Waldemar Swierzy died in 2013.
